Blog – Filler treatments

The fillers we use are a naturally occurring substance called Hyaluronic Acid  (a complex sugar) which we already have in our bodies.  They give us much of the volume in our face and support to our skin. As we age we lose volume which can make us look older. Fillers are designed to correct deficiencies, and improve overall shape, balance and harmony. They work brilliantly when done by an experienced practitioner who understands facial harmony.  They are often used in conjunction with anti-wrinkle injections.
An adult face is a balance of concavity and convexity. A face should have a beautiful balance of both light and shade.  An adult face looks disharmonious with too little volume, but can look even worse with too much!  An experienced person will accentuate an area that is out of proportion to bring the face into balance. Filler can be used in the cheeks, temples, brow, nose, jawline, and subtly in the lips.
Ask to see photos and what results can be achieved, realistically. Look at the staff in the practice and be assured that everybody looks normal! You will know.
Fillers are biodegradable and are broken down by the body with time, much the same way as the body’s own hyaluronic acid is broken down. They are safe when used appropriately, and depending on the area treated require topping up every 6-9 months or so, sometimes lasting up to two years. Fillers can be dissolved instantly if you don’t like the effect, but that’s rare. It’s normal to keep ageing, it’s just nice to know we have a few tricks up our sleeve to compete with mother nature sometimes. When searching for a good practitioner, ask around. Word of mouth is a good source and of course if you can’t get to us we can always tee you up with someone in your area. Just ask us.
A word of caution.  There are other fillers around which can be semi-permanent or permanent.  Thoroughly understand these before having them injected.  We do not use them as we feel the risks are too great.
